A Letter

Written before the healing:

Here we are, past the pain we thought would never end and born a whole new person. I envision that every day has taught us something new and if it didn’t that’s okay too. To learn or not learn is a choice and I know we’ve made the right one. The only person that you must worry about accepting how much you need to grow and learn is you. We have been judged for how much we didn’t know in the past, but how much we know is relative. Everyone has different life experiences. A quote has resonated with us deeply, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

That’s how I know you’re so much better than you were, and you’re getting better every day. You’ve accepted that it is okay to love and care about people immensely. You’ve learned to cook new recipes, words to new songs, and facts about other cultures and religions. You’ve figured out how to shed ideas and beliefs that were planted before you even knew that the roots were infecting your wellbeing. We know now that there is no finish line to being the perfect friend, daughter, worker, significant other, or human being.

I am proud of me then, I am proud of me now, and I am proud of who I am to become. Because we have grown and continue to grow. My future self in 5 years, in 20 years, or in 50 years you are flourishing. You have never stopped, you have never given up, you have never settled but you continue to rise. You continue to rise above the negativity this world has had and continues to offer. You continue to rise above the unfortunate bad things that happen in life and have accepted you cannot avoid them.

So, continue to rise, continue to learn, and continue to grow.
